Top neighborhoods in San Francisco

South Of Market
South Of Market
What it’s like to live in South Of Market
Urban transformation defines San Francisco's South of Market (SoMa) district, where former warehouses and industrial buildings now house innovative startups alongside luxury loft apartments. The neighborhood surrounds both Oracle Park and the Yerba Buena cultural district, offering sports entertainment and artistic programming within walking distance of most rentals. Though noise considerations exist from both highway proximity and vibrant nightlife in certain sections, the district's large blocks and wide streets create surprisingly open feeling compared to San Francisco's densely developed residential neighborhoods. The area's excellent public transportation includes multiple Muni and BART connections to broader city and regional destinations without vehicle requirements. The primary consideration remains significant unhoused population concentrations in certain sections, creating urban challenges requiring awareness when considering specific blocks within this diverse and developing district.

Latino culture thrives in this vibrant barrio where Balmy Alley's ever-changing murals document social justice movements. Renters love 24-hour taquerias but note persistent street parking shortages near 24th Street BART Station during commute hours.

What it’s like to live in Mission Bay
High-rise modernity defines Mission Bay, where this newer San Francisco district offers contemporary apartments with amenities rarely found in the city's older neighborhoods. The waterfront area continues developing around the Chase Center arena with new restaurants and shops opening regularly. Residents enjoy exceptional public transportation through nearby Muni and Caltrain connections, though the area lacks the historic character found in other San Francisco neighborhoods and rental rates reflect the premium new construction.

Living in San Francisco, CA

Truly one of the greatest cities in the world, San Francisco is overflowing with world-class culture, cuisine, and charm. It also has the house from Full House and, as you might imagine, any city that hosts the fictional antics of John Stamos is naturally going to be popular, San Francisco being no exception.

Apartment prices vary greatly, but lucky for you, the city does have rent control laws in place for apartments built before 1979 (most were), so you won’t have to worry about dramatic annual spikes if you do end up in one of those buildings
