This is a spacious three bedroom and one-bathroom apartment located on the top floor of a three-story building with a balcony and view. The unit is flooded with natural light Around the corner are all the stores and restaurants of the Gourmet Ghetto, and it is about a 10-minute walk to campus (northside – Soda and VLSB) and BART – Downtown Berkeley. This building attracts PhD students with an average tenancy of four and half years over the last ten years. Previous, group lived here for six years finishing up their PHD and doing post doc work.
The building has an app operated laundry room on site (no coins). Abloy lock system on the door and in the building – highest security lock system, meaning no duplicate keys exist and one key to access unit, mailbox, and common areas. Prior tenants do not have access to your unit. Very few buildings in Berkeley, if any, feature this lock system.
Water and garbage/recycling are included with rent. Parking is available and internet service high speed fiber promotion (3 months for free – no contracts/net neutral/no caps/no throttling).
The unit was just renovated during the past month (not years ago) and about $40,000 was spent on the following updates (you can still smell the paint):
1. Completely repainted the entire unit
2. Recessed LED lighting in the living room (no more floor lamps)
3. Brand new solid wood custom cabinets with sliding quiet close (never been used)
4. Brand new quartz countertop, sink, and kitchen fixtures (never been used)
5. Brand new refrigerator/dishwasher/microwave (never been used) – all stainless-steel appliances
6. Brand new kitchen rangehood
7. Brand new waterproof flooring (never been used)
8. Brand new curtains (blackout) and mini-blinds
9. Bathroom was completely remodeled with brand new tile flooring/bathtub/quartz wall (nobody has used) and brand new toilet (Toto) and Kohler bathroom sink/fixtures
Each bedroom is large enough to accommodate up to a king size bed with room for desk and dresser. There are two common area closets, and each bedroom has its own closet (a true three bedroom, not a converted unit).
The application fee is $59.95 and co-signor application fee is $29.95 (not required for PHD students with proof of funding). The security deposit is 1.5 month's rent, and no first or last month rent required. The unit is available August 1 or earlier, and the lease term will be for one year.
No smokers and no pets of any are kind are allowed.
