City Guide
Foxcroft, Charlotte
Foxcroft is one of south Charlotte’s most prestigious communities. Renters will feel the old Southern gentility among the sprawling homes and well-manicured lawns. If you close your eyes, you can just imagine the society lady next door inviting you to join her on the porch for a chat over some sweet tea.

Foxcroft is the textbook definition of suburban living: While those desiring diversity and nightlife might enjoy living closer to downtown, this is where you go when you want to retreat from the stress of the day and the hassles of urban living. As part of the larger South Park area of Charlotte, Foxcroft is an established neighborhood that is home to a growing number of out-of-state transplants and renters.

Whether you’ve been here for years or just arrived, you’ll appreciate the whisper of Southern charm at places like the Foxcroft Wine Co., where you can chat over a glass of wine and truffle fries. The great service, creative cocktails, and fresh seafood at Upstream makes it a classy choice for date night or special celebration.

Foxcroft is also a part of a city that loves the charm of Southern brunch. Café Monte does it up right with beignets, lobster and crab crepes in a classy atmosphere. Terrace Café is famed for their red velvet waffles and steak and eggs—but make a reservation because everyone else wants to eat here, too.

If upscale shopping is one of your favorite pastimes, there’s no better location for renting an apartment than Foxcroft. If your tastes are more upscale, you’ll find high-end shops at the nearby SouthPark Mall. If you prefer artisan jewelry and one-of-a-kind couture, independent boutiques like bevello and chezElle will keep you looking unique and stylish.

Foxcroft has the distinction of having a high percentage of renters while also feeling like a stable, established neighborhood. That’s due to the unspoken code by the residents here that you act like a good neighbor: clean up after your dog, keep your stereo at an appropriate volume and make the place a nice place to call home.

Charlotte’s weather is beautiful year-round, so you’ll see your neighbors at the sports courts and lake at nearby Park Road Park or enjoying a show at Symphony Park. But most people here take an indoor approach to improving their fitness at one of the neighborhood’s many gyms. Foxcroft East Racquet & Swim Club is a membership-based facility with well-maintained pools and tennis courts. Find your inner calm at Laughing Buddha yoga or work out at the extremely clean YMCA. Bowling at TEN Park Lanes is so much fun you won’t need to go downtown for a night out—hanging out here is just as much about moonshine and creative mason jar entrees as it is about knocking down pins.

Because Foxcroft is so suburban, most people drive everywhere. Public transportation is limited in this neighborhood, although the nearby South Park Mall parking deck has a major transfer hub for buses with the Charlotte Area Transit System. However, many apartment complexes in Foxcroft are somewhat walkable locations for socializing and shopping because they’re located within walking distance of boutiques and restaurants.

When you’re looking for apartments for rent in Foxcroft, be prepared that your credentials matter. It’s not a highly competitive market in terms of finding available apartments, but it can be a challenge to prove that you’re credit-worthy. Foxcroft wants to attract stable residents that will love and maintain the peace the neighborhood has to offer. Also note that in addition to premium rent prices, utilities are extra in almost all apartments here.

Housing in Foxcroft is an appealing mix of restored 1930s buildings, stately Victorians and clean apartment buildings. It’s safe to say that almost any apartment you rent in Foxcroft will have modern amenities such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, onsite fitness facilities and pools. Many will even let you bring along a dog or cat, though be prepared to pay for extra deposits and fees.

Foxcroft is close enough to downtown Charlotte that you can visit the bright lights and big city anytime you want. Rent your next apartment among the peace and quiet of Foxcroft.
