Property Description(323) 435-4447 - Artist-designed and newly remodeled, this one-of-a-kind Playa del Rey residence offers loft-inspired living with the Ballona Wetlands as your backyard and sweeping views across the entire Los Angeles basin. Custom designed and built by an artist, the home pairs an open, light-filled floor plan with thoughtful craftsmanship and original details throughout, creating a space that feels as much like a studio or gallery as a home. The setting is truly rare. The property borders the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, the second-largest open space within Los Angeles city limits after Griffith Park. Owned by the State of California and managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the reserve provides a protected natural backdrop of open marsh, coastal breezes, and abundant birdlife, including herons, egrets, and hawks. Enjoy quiet mornings, a strong sense of privacy, and a connection to nature that is almost impossible to find this close to the heart of the city. From inside and out, clear and unobstructed views stretch from the boats in Marina del Rey across the Los Angeles basin to the San Gabriel Mountains. Watch the light shift over the mountains through the day, the city glow at night, and spectacular sunsets every evening. The home is a duplex and this upper unit offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus a separate office/TV room that works beautifully as a home office, studio, media room, or creative workspace. The open plan flows easily between the living, dining, and kitchen areas, with loft-style volume and an artist's attention to proportion and light. Practical comforts include an in-unit washer and dryer, dedicated storage, and a full solar system for energy efficiency and lower utility costs. Every element of the remodel reflects a maker's sensibility, from the custom built-ins to the considered use of materials and natural light. The result is a calm, uncluttered environment that invites focus, creativity, and rest, with the ever-changing views and wetland landscape serving as a living backdrop. The flexible layout adapts easily to the way you live, whether you need quiet space to work, room to entertain, or a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. The custom kitchen is a standout, designed for both everyday cooking and entertaining. It features a Thermador induction cooktop, a stainless Bosch dishwasher, an LG oven and microwave, and handbuilt custom polycarbonate shelving that adds a luminous, sculptural element found nowhere else. Playa del Rey is old-school Los Angeles at its best: a relaxed beach community with a genuine village feel and a pace that sets it apart from the busier coastal neighborhoods nearby. Walk to the beach for morning strolls, swims, or rides along the coastal bike path, and stroll to neighborhood restaurants, cafes, and bars. Playa Vista is about five minutes away, with Whole Foods, an AMC cinema, and a farmers market, while Marina del Rey, Venice, Culver City, and the Silicon Beach creative and tech corridor are all close by. For commuters and travelers, the location is exceptional. LAX and the 405 Freeway are approximately five minutes away, making airport runs, business trips, and Westside commutes simple and fast. Thoughtfully remodeled, solar powered, and built with genuine craft, this home is a rare match for anyone who values original design, natural beauty, privacy, and inspiring surroundings. It offers an uncommon combination of protected open space, panoramic views, beach access, and city convenience. Opportunities like this seldom become available for lease.
