Moving to Lawndale

By the early 1920s, Lawndale became known as an eclectic mixing pot of an area, with a mixture of luxury homes and both display and performing arts centers. Later, the neighborhood became a linchpin in the civil rights movement, where a fight for fair housing gained national attention.

In the decades since, rental condos in Lawndale, luxury apartments and month-to-month rentals became highly sought after in the redeveloping area. K-Town, so called because of its streets beginning with "K", is one well-known community within Lawndale where potential renters can find a two bedroom apartment or a studio apartment for rent in one of the renovated historic homes. Nearby Homan Square is a planned development on the site of the former Sears Headquarters and has tons of housing options available that are serviced by community amenities like pools, rec centers and retail stores. When meeting with any landlords, be sure to have all proper documents prepared; that means having your ID, letters of employment, a credit check, references from past landlords and, of course, a deposit.

Neighborhoods in Lawndale

Lawndale has plenty of great areas to choose from, but here are a couple popular areas:

Little Village: Little Village is resplendent with verdant parks like Washtenaw Park and Shedd Park and the community was once home to Pat Sajak.

Marshall Square: Marshall Square includes the Marshall Square Theatre, where if you listen closely, you might still hear memories of the jazz tones of clarinetist Benny Goodman. Whether you're looking for apartments with paid utilities, pet-friendly apartments or a place to call your forever home, Lawndale might just be the right fit for you.

Life in Lawndale

In reality, Lawndale is just a nice Midwestern town. Its main attractions include a tavern, a grain elevator and a mobile home park. If you're looking for a relaxing rural life, then, this is the place for you. However, there are more draws to Lawndale. It's a convenient commute to Springfield, and is a great suburb if you want a home outside of the hustle and bustle of the big city. While there's not much to do in town, just hop in the car and you can be in the capital city in minutes. There are endless options of things to do there.
