Property DescriptionOffered as a fully furnished townhouse rental available for an initial term of up to one year beginning February 15; inquire for details. 38 King is a rarity: a timeless piece of New York history renovated without losing any of its integrity. Built in the early 20th century, 38 King Street is a Federal-style landmarked single-family townhouse in the highly desirable Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District. With four floors, plus a fully finished basement, this 20 home spans over 4,700 square feet, plus an expansive, 49 deep private garden. Light abounds on all floors of this home from its northern and southern exposures, which look over the private garden to the south and quiet, tree-lined King Street to the north. Zoned central air conditioning and forced air heating ensure comfort in every room during every season. The building itself is exquisite, but do not overlook the quality of the finishes and furnishings. Each room is aesthetically independent, yet the whole house comes together cohesively as a bespoke, one-of-a-kind home. The home has been thoughtfully and zealously imagined with art, light fixtures, rugs, furniture, flooring, and paint playfully engage with the home itself. A one-of-a-kind home with a one-of-a-kind design, 38 King is truly without a peer. Entering on the parlor floor, you come through a grand, 50 living room, at the end of which is a raised dining area looking over the private garden. Hardwood floors, two brick wood-burning fireplaces, and a bevy of delightful sconces and light fixtures greet you. Perfect for entertaining or a quiet night in, the parlor floor has over 10 ceilings, multiple sitting areas, built-in bookshelves, and a sophisticated yet accessible sensibility. Down the stairs to the garden level are the kitchen and the dining room. The eat-in kitchen, which itself has multiple sitting areas and a center island, features marble countertops, modern appliances, a double-wide sink and a double-wide oven, stone flooring, and views that overlook the private garden. On the north side, the dining room features another wood-burning fireplace and stone flooring, and can easily sit 8 or more people. Outside, the landscaped garden, which is abutted on three sides by other private gardens to ensure quiet and privacy, has multiple spots for lounging, sunbathing, and reading, in addition to the diverse selection of flora that has been planted. The third floor of the house is the primary suite. The primary bedroom has a private terrace overlooking the garden, another wood-burning fireplace, and an en-suite bathroom. Features of the bathroom include oversized checkered tile flooring, a soaking tub, double marble sinks, and custom fixtures and sconces. On the other side of the bathroom is the dressing room, which can also double as an additional bedroom with multiple closets. The fourth floor has two more bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The bedrooms easily fit king beds and a desk or sitting area. The fully-finished lower level hosts the final bedroom, as well as a storage room and the laundry facilities. With a private patio, and another en-suite bath, the lower level is no mere afterthought. Equipped with the same climate control system as the rest of the house and a light well, it is both a capacious and versatile space, offering flexibility for additional house guests, bike storage, or a live-in au pair.
