Welcome to the Apartment List October 2025 Rent Report for Long Beach, CA. Currently, the overall median rent in the city stands at $1,776, after falling 1.3% last month. Prices remain up 0.4% year-over-year. Read on to learn more about what’s been happening in the Long Beach rental market and how it compares to trends throughout the broader Los Angeles metro area and the nation as a whole.
The median rent in Long Beach fell by 1.3% over the course of September, and has now increased by a total of 0.4% over the past 12 months. Long Beach’s rent growth over the past year has is similar to the state average (1.3%) and has outpaced the national average (-0.8%).
Nine months into the year, rents in Long Beach have risen 1.9%. This is a faster rate of growth compared to what the city was experiencing at this point last year: from January to September 2024 rents had increased 0.6%.
Long Beach rents went down 1.3% in the past month, compared to the national rate of -0.4%. Among the nation's 100 largest cities, this ranks #97. Similar monthly rent growth took place in Henderson, NV (-1.3%) and New Orleans, LA (-1.4%).
Citywide, the median rent currently stands at $1,587 for a 1-bedroom apartment and $1,944 for a 2-bedroom. Across all bedroom sizes (ie, the entire rental market), the median rent is $1,776. That ranks #22 in the nation, among the country's 100 largest cities.
For comparison, the median rent across the nation as a whole is $1,224 for a 1-bedroom, $1,379 for a 2-bedroom, and $1,394 overall. The median rent in Long Beach is 27.4% higher than the national, and is similar to the prices you would find in Virginia Beach, VA ($1,802) and Anchorage, AK ($1,750).
If we expand our view to the wider Los Angeles metro area, the median rent is $2,218 meaning that the median price in Long Beach ($1,776) is 19.9% lower than the price across the metro as a whole. Metro-wide annual rent growth stands at 0.6%, above the rate of rent growth within just the city.

Apartment List has released Long Beach’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"Long Beach renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "However, ratings varied greatly across different categories, indicating that even though renters love Long Beach, some aspects can be better."
Key findings in Long Beach include the following:
Long Beach renters gave their city a C+ overall.
The highest-rated categories for Long Beach were public transit (A) and weather (A-).
The areas of concern to Long Beach renters are jobs and career opportunities and pet-friendliness, which both received D grades.
Millennial renters are moderately satisfied with their city, giving it an overall rating of B.
Long Beach earned similar scores to Los Angeles (C+) and San Jose (C), but earned lower marks than San Diego (A-) and San Francisco (B+).
Long Beach did relatively poorly compared to similar cities nationwide, including Austin, TX (A-), Denver, CO (B+) and Seattle, WA (B+)
The top rated cities nationwide for renter satisfaction include Scottsdale, AZ, Irvine, CA, Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI. The lowest rated cities include Tallahassee, FL, Stockton, CA, Dayton, OH, Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ.
