Apartment List has released Indianapolis’ results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.
"Indianapolis renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "However, ratings varied greatly across different categories, indicating that even hough renters love Indianapolis, some aspects can be better."

Artists and urban pioneers find their community in Near Eastside Indianapolis, where historic homes and converted industrial spaces offer architectural character at surprisingly accessible price points. The neighborhood's renaissance continues through creative initiatives including community murals and popup markets showcasing local makers. Unlike gentrified areas, you'll find authentic diversity and grassroots community organizations working toward inclusive development. Many properties feature unexpected architectural details from leaded glass windows to built-in bookshelves unavailable in contemporary construction. When seeking urban agriculture connections, the neighborhood's community gardens offer growing space for apartment dwellers, with several plots specifically reserved for rental residents.
Cultural fusion thrives along 38th Street's global eateries and panaderías. The Mapleton Fall Creek historic district offers affordable duplexes but requires flood insurance near White River banks. Community gardens provide free summer produce.
Downtown Indianapolis pulses with urban energy where historic buildings stand alongside sleek high-rises creating distinctive skyline views throughout the central district. Renters enjoy exceptional walkability to restaurants, professional sports venues, and major employers with genuine pedestrian-friendly design unusual for typically car-dependent midwestern cities. Events at Lucas Oil Stadium create occasional congestion affecting everyday movement through some areas, but young professionals appreciate both the neighborhood's growing energy and strategic positioning at the center of Indianapolis' developing cultural renaissance with remarkable value compared to similar downtown districts in coastal cities despite premium positioning within the local market but with authentic urban experiences increasingly valued throughout the midwest.
