Northeast Atlanta encompasses several distinctive neighborhoods each with unique character from Midtown's high-rises to Virginia-Highland's historic bungalows. Rental options span from luxury apartments with skyline views to character-filled homes with architectural significance. While the area offers excellent access to both Piedmont Park recreation and major employers, housing costs vary dramatically between specific neighborhoods despite their geographic proximity. Most suitable for those seeking urban living with distinctive neighborhood identities who can take time to explore specific sub-districts to find the precise environment matching their preferences from vibrant urban to leafy residential.
Historic revival energizes Atlanta's Eastside, where neighborhoods like Reynoldstown and Edgewood showcase beautifully restored homes alongside thoughtful new development. The Eastside BeltLine trail provides car-free access to Ponce City Market and other attractions, creating genuine walkability rare in typically car-dependent Atlanta. Though gentrification has pushed rental rates higher in recent years, the area still offers more value than established intown neighborhoods despite similar amenities and downtown access.
Rapid transformation defines Northwest Atlanta, where industrial spaces now house lofts beside new mixed-use developments. The area offers more affordable options than Midtown while maintaining good access to Georgia Tech and downtown. The Atlanta BeltLine's Westside Trail has accelerated neighborhood changes, bringing new restaurants and shops. Some sections remain in transition, requiring local knowledge for finding the right block.

If you want quality, nothing is cheap. You get what you pay for. Sometimes you get less than what you pay for, but I do love the Buford area. I’m walking distance from the mall of Ga.
National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Atlanta’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"Atlanta renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories average scores."
Key findings in Atlanta include the following:
Atlanta renters gave their city a B overall.
The highest-rated categories for Atlanta were jobs and career opportunities, social life, recreational activities and pet-friendliness, which all received B+ grades.
The areas of concern to Atlanta renters are commute time (D) and quality of local schools (C+).
Millennial renters are very satisfied with their city, giving it an overall rating of B+, while renters who are parents are less satisfied, giving it a C+.
Atlanta earned similar scores compared to other nearby cities like Athens (B) and Savannah (B+), but earned higher marks than Augusta (D) and Decatur (F).
Atlanta relatively poorly compared to other Southern cities, including Charlotte, NC (A-), Nashville, TN (A-) and Virginia Beach, VA (A-).
The top rated cities nationwide for renter satisfaction include Scottsdale, AZ, Irvine, CA, Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI. The lowest rated cities include Tallahassee, FL, Stockton, CA, Dayton, OH, Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ.
