National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Baton Rouge’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.
"Baton Rouge renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories below average scores."

Mid City offers historic character with genuine Louisiana flavor in central Baton Rouge. Rental options include charming cottages and converted larger homes with architectural details reflecting the region's distinctive styles. While some streets remain in various stages of revitalization and the area lacks the prestige of southern neighborhoods, residents enjoy excellent access to both downtown employment and the developing Government Street corridor with authentic urban character increasingly rare in automobile-oriented southern cities.
Recreation access distinguishes Jones Creek, where this eastern Baton Rouge community offers excellent positioning near both BREC parks and private country clubs. The neighborhood features larger properties with generous outdoor spaces in a quieter setting than more central districts. For families prioritizing both school quality and recreational opportunities, Jones Creek delivers Baton Rouge's ideal combination of educational excellence, outdoor access, and reasonable commutes to major employment centers.
Executive rental options abound in these connected Baton Rouge communities, where properties range from luxury apartments to upscale single-family homes in prestigious districts. These neighborhoods provide excellent access to major employers including healthcare institutions and corporate campuses along Essen Lane. Despite the upscale positioning, these communities offer surprisingly good value compared to similarly-appointed properties in larger Southern metropolitan areas, reflecting Baton Rouge's overall housing affordability relative to its economic opportunities.
