Shenandoah is a small town near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The city is home to about 17,000 people, and it's divided up into several small, tight-knit neighborhoods. Shenandoah definitely feels like a small town. But, luckily, it's only a hop, skip and a jump away from Baton Rouge, which is a city with all the big city offerings one could imagine. You can drive just 11 miles away and be in the heart of Louisiana's capital and one of its most thriving cities.
If you want access to big city amenities but don't want hustle and bustle outside your window all day and night, Shenandoah's a great place for you. It's easy to get to Baton Rouge when you want, but you'll also have your bayou country escape. Even though Shenandoah's small, it has its own neighborhoods made up of subdivisions. These areas are great places to hook for one-bedroom apartments for rent or places to live in Shenandoah.
Shenandoah Estates: Shenandoah Estates is a quiet and peaceful subdivision in the heart of Shenandoah. The neighborhood has more than 2,200 houses, and it's set on more than five miles of land. Two parks are located on the property, so it's great for anyone who likes to get out of their home to stretch their legs or be active.
White Oak: White Oak is an area of Shenandoah that's closest to Southeast Baton Rouge. There is a ton of spillover from the big city to this area, so you'll find more businesses, restaurants and easier access to the big city. Come here if you like a little more excitement around your home. Many of your daily stops will be just minutes from your home.
The Woods: The Woods is a neighborhood in Shenandoah that is located in the town's southeast corner. It's very small and it feels rural, so this is a great place for people who like their homes to feel like a relaxing country escape. Choose The Woods if you like living near water; you'll be right by the banks of the Amite River. The Woods is a good spot in town to look for a house rental or a large apartment to rent; don't expect to find too many furnished apartments here, though.
For those who love the rustic feeling of bayou country but still want big city amenities, there's no better choice than Shenandoah. The city is just a 15-minute drive from Baton Rouge, so it's easy to get what you want when you want it. Residents here drive cars, since there's no real easy or reliable public transportation. But once you do drive your car into Baton Rouge, there are tons of activities, restaurants and entertainment options to choose from.
Obviously, people here like to eat. Louisiana residents are huge fans of their Cajun, Creole and even Southern foods. And living here gives you access to some of the best Cajun restaurants in the country. You can find huge national chain restaurants, upscale dining classics and even tiny hole-in-the-walls, all of which serve outstanding Louisiana cuisine. Drinking is also a big part of the culture here. The city -- particularly Baton Rouge -- has tons of bars and nightlife options. People can be found sipping sazeracs (a bourbon cocktail invented in New Orleans) throughout the night.
There's more to do than eat and drink, though. Football is also a huge part of culture. So grab your pompoms and foam fingers if Shenandoah is in your future! Shenandoah residents are huge fans of the LSU Tigers (based in Baton Rouge), so expect to attend tailgates, football games, basketball games and more!
