Welcome to the Apartment List February 2026 Rent Report for Baton Rouge, LA. Currently, the overall median rent in the city stands at $1,085, roughly the same as last month. Prices remain up 0.8% year-over-year. Read on to learn more about what’s been happening in the Baton Rouge rental market and how it compares to trends throughout the nation as a whole.
The median rent in Baton Rouge fell by 0.2% over the course of January, and has now increased by a total of 0.8% over the past 12 months. Baton Rouge’s rent growth over the past year has is similar to the state average (0.5%) and has outpaced the national average (-1.4%).
Baton Rouge rents went down 0.2% in the past month, compared to the national rate of -0.2%. Among the nation's 100 largest cities, this ranks #60. Similar monthly rent growth took place in Chesapeake, VA (-0.2%) and Boston, MA (-0.3%).
Citywide, the median rent currently stands at $896 for a 1-bedroom apartment and $1,115 for a 2-bedroom. Across all bedroom sizes (ie, the entire rental market), the median rent is $1,085. That ranks #90 in the nation, among the country's 100 largest cities.
For comparison, the median rent across the nation as a whole is $1,189 for a 1-bedroom, $1,339 for a 2-bedroom, and $1,353 overall. The median rent in Baton Rouge is 19.8% lower than the national, and is similar to the prices you would find in Winston-Salem, NC ($1,094) and Oklahoma City, OK ($1,069).

Apartment List has released Baton Rouge’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.
"Baton Rouge renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories below average scores."
Key Findings in Baton Rouge include the following:
Baton Rouge renters gave their city a C overall.
The highest-rated categories for Baton Rouge were jobs and career opportunities and pet-friendliness, which both received B- grades.
The areas of concern to Baton Rouge renters are commute time, weather and public transit, which all received scores of F.
Baton Rouge did relatively poorly compared to other Southern cities like Atlanta (B), New Orleans (B), Charleston (A-) and Columbia (B-).
Baton Rouge did relatively poorly compared to cities nationwide, including Houston (B+), San Francisco (B+) and Boston (A).
The top rated cities nationwide for renter satisfaction include Scottsdale, AZ, Irvine, CA, Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI. The lowest rated cities include Tallahassee, FL, Stockton, CA, Dayton, OH, Detroit, MI and Newark, NJ.
