Families and young professionals are rediscovering Old Brooklyn, where affordable homes and garden apartments offer significantly more space than Ohio City or Tremont without sacrificing easy downtown access. The neighborhood's Brooklyn Centre historic district features beautifully preserved homes often divided into spacious apartments with architectural details you won't find in newer construction. Most rentals include off-street parking – a significant advantage during Cleveland's snowy winters. The 17-acre Brooklyn Brighton Park offers extensive recreation facilities including a pool and ice skating rink, while the newest section of the Towpath Trail provides car-free commuting options to downtown. For best value, look at units in the southern section near Memphis Avenue, where well-maintained properties often include yard access uncommon in urban rentals.
This historic Cleveland neighborhood offers stunning architectural variety at remarkably affordable rental rates. Many apartments occupy beautifully detailed older homes with features like hardwood floors and built-in cabinetry. The neighborhood provides easy access to both downtown Cleveland and University Circle institutions, though some blocks show varied investment levels requiring familiarity with the area.
Buckeye-Shaker showcases Cleveland's rich architectural heritage with impressive homes from the city's industrial heyday. Rental options include apartments in divided historic mansions and smaller buildings with character details unavailable elsewhere. The neighborhood provides excellent access to both Case Western Reserve University and the developing Larchmere Boulevard commercial district, though property conditions vary considerably throughout this transitioning area.
