Despite occasional incursions by flood waters, the area continued to grow and prosper so that by 1990, it became a full-fledged city. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 7,823 people live here.

For all of its small-city size, Flowood boasts large metropolitan perks when it comes to health care. Most homes here are from the 21st century, although you'll find fewer apartment complexes here. You might have more luck looking for a single-family home as your rental property. If you prefer living in something new, most of the properties here are from the 21st century.

Cambridge Apartment Homes: If you take care of a pet, then the rental homes in this apartment community welcomes you with open arms. However, you need to pay a one-time fee and a deposit. Other amenities include a pool, a clubhouse and 24-hour emergency on-call service. Units have ceiling fans to encourage summer breezes, patios or balconies to enjoy the Southern sun. Models range from 2 bedrooms and 2 baths to 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.

Living in Flowood

Shopping is number one in the city because you can choose from over a dozen opportunities. The Dogwood Festival Market has over 60 stores including Best Buy and Stein Mart. And Magnolia Market, anchored by Pet Smart and Ross Dress for Less, is right across the street from Harmony Oaks, a residential redevelopment site.

For indoor diversion, try the Remote Control Indoor Park, which can rent you a remote-controlled car (or bring your own) so you can test your skills on a track measuring 125 feet wide and 100 feet deep. Relax your mind with a bit of reading at the Flowood Library, which features 25,000 square feet of books and meeting rooms.

Take a break from spending by visiting one of a half-dozen or so recreational facilities. Flowood Liberty Park encourages baseball and soccer on its fields, Crystal Lake can bring out the boater and angler in you, and the Nature Park contains 40 acres of lake, mature hardwood forest, and paved walking trail.
