National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Lexington’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"Lexington renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "Despite giving the city As and Bs in all categories, renters gave the city a C grade for overall satisfaction."

Affordability attracts renters to Eastland Parkway, where garden apartments and duplexes offer more space than possible in Lexington's trendier districts. The neighborhood's central location provides quick access to both downtown employment and the university area without student housing premiums. Though architectural distinction may be limited compared to historic districts, the practical layouts and responsive maintenance typically found in larger communities compensate for character limitations. The neighborhood's proximity to both Idle Hour Country Club and Kirklevington Park creates green space access unusual for affordable rental districts.
Liberty Area delivers authentic community character with UK accessibility where this established Lexington neighborhood offers more affordable options than similarly positioned communities closer to campus. Renters appreciate both the genuine neighborhood connections beyond purely student-focused apartments and strategic positioning between downtown and Alumni Drive with straightforward access to university facilities. Some commercial corridors remain utilitarian without distinctive architectural character, but students and young professionals value both the housing affordability and excellent access to both campus resources and everyday shopping without corresponding rental premiums despite the mixed architectural styles throughout the district.
