To the north of town you’ll find sprawling Mohegan Park and several other historic districts located in the original old town. The Norwichtown section of the city on the northern border of the park has several desirable rental homes and apartments for rent in both historic buildings and new developments. To the northeast and northwest of Norwichtown, you’ll find Yantic and Taftville/Occum, respectively. Both former mill towns, the Taftville and Occum areas have bounced back better after the mills were destroyed. If you’re looking for quiet residential areas with tons of inexpensive apartments, check out these areas. You can find two bedroom rental properties here for about $700 - $850.
Greenville and Laurel Hill, located east of the city center, are good areas with a growing Hispanic population, and affordable apartments. Prices here range from $650-800. Just west of Laurel Hill you’ll find the Thamesville neighborhood. There has been some recent development in this area—including high-end luxury condominiums and it’s affordable, with two bedrooms going for $600 - $800.
