National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Huntington Beach’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"Huntington Beach renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "With expensive rents in coastal cities, it comes as no surprise that cost of living is a source of dissatisfaction in Huntington Beach."

Waterfront living defines Huntington Harbour, where rental options surrounding this man-made island community offer direct ocean access unlike most Orange County coastal neighborhoods. The area surrounds several shopping centers including Peter's Landing Marina with its waterfront dining options facing sunset views across the harbor channels. Most rentals include water features from harbor-facing windows to rare dock access for those with watercraft, creating genuine coastal lifestyle beyond typical beach proximity. Though rental rates significantly exceed inland alternatives, many residents find the elimination of weekend beach traffic and parking challenges justifies the premium for those prioritizing water activities. The neighborhood's relative seclusion creates quieter atmosphere than tourist-focused downtown Huntington Beach despite comparable coastal positioning.
Surf culture defines this district near Goldenwest Beach's volleyball courts. Renters enjoy included board storage but face $250+/month parking permits. Spring break crowds overwhelm Pacific Coast Highway March-April.
Surf culture thrives in this "Surf City USA" hub centered around the International Surfing Museum. Renters love beachfront complexes with outdoor showers but face strict prohibitions on bonfires. The weekly Sunset Market's food trucks satisfy late-night cravings, though parking becomes impossible after 6PM.
