Pahrump is located in the high desert of Nevada. A short 60-mile drive to the east, you will find the fabulous city of Las Vegas. Take a wonderful day trip by driving 60 miles to the west and spending the day at Death Valley National Park. This town is growing very fast, but there's probably still room for you and your family. In 1980, the population was 2,000; today it is over 36,000. The weather is great most of the year, with July being the hottest month, sometimes reaching 100 degrees. (But it's a dry heat). When the winter months in other areas of the country get too cold, many snowbirds flock to Pahrump.

Moving to Pahrump

This is a very good time to buy a home in the area because interest rates are still low and bargains are available if you qualify. Depending on the specific neighborhood, median home prices range from low to even lower. Rentals are also available, and the rents are reasonable. Rental homes range a bit higher, from low to a decent amount per month. On the high end, there are condos and upscale homes in the "Los Angeles" range.

Neighborhoods

Amargosa Valley: Amargosa Valley is close to Town Center. Townhouses and condos for rent in this area go a pretty average rate for Pahrump.

N. David St. / W. Basin Ave:Just north of Town Center is the neighborhood of N. David St. and W. Basin Ave. Apartments are plentiful here, as well as medium-sized to small mobile and single-family homes, with mobiles being the most abundant. This diverse neighborhood has the unfortunate distinction of having quite a long commute time, upwards of two hours.

Hafen Ranch Rd. / E. Kellogg Rd: Southeast of the center of Pahrump, you will find the Hafen Ranch Rd. and E. Kellogg Rd. neighborhood. Larger, newer homes and mobiles are found throughout this neighborhood, and rentals are not as numerous as other areas. A large number of commuters carpool to work.

Homestead Rd. / E. Gamebird Rd:To the west of Hafen Ranch area is the Homestead Rd. and E. Gamebird Rd. neighborhood. More than half of these homes are mobiles. There are plenty of choices for those looking for a peaceful community.

The N. Leslie St. / W. Irene St. neighborhood is just northwest of Town Center. Here you will most likely see medium to small-sized single-family homes and mobile homes. Mobile homes are most prevalent, while single residences following closely in number. The entire city has quite a number of vacancies, and this neighborhood is no different.

Johnnie/Crystal: The less densely populated neighborhood of the Johnnie/Crystal area is on the outskirts of the city. Medium to small homes feature three and four bedrooms, and there are also smaller studios and one-bedroom units.

Living in Pahrump

There are many attractions in town, such as museums, casinos, fishing events, and of course, golf. Beginning in August and stretching through November, there's auto racing at the Pahrump Valley Speedway. Thousands come to town to enjoy the sport of racing. Even Hollywood realizes how beautiful the local scenery, using the area in a number of films and television dramas. Combine the sense of community, the proximity to both a big city and big nature, and the climate, and you have the perfect place to settle down in Pahrump -- as long as you can get around how silly the name sounds.
