National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Lincoln’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.
"Lincoln renters expressed general satisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "However, ratings varied greatly across different categories, indicating that even though renters love Lincoln, some aspects can be better."

Near South features beautiful historic homes just minutes from downtown Lincoln. Rentals include charming divided houses and smaller apartment buildings with character you won't find in newer construction. The neighborhood offers easy access to both the State Capitol and shopping along South Street, though older homes may require more maintenance. Especially appealing to students, state employees, and professionals who enjoy historic settings and walkable amenities.
Academic affordability defines this UNL-adjacent enclave near Innovation Campus. Renters love converted Victorian boarding houses but note paper-thin walls amplifying fraternity party noise. The Haymarket District's craft breweries draw weekend crowds.
University accessibility defines Belmont, where this northwestern Lincoln neighborhood offers more affordable alternatives to campus-adjacent options while maintaining reasonable commuting possibilities. Most rentals feature more generous space than comparable downtown districts, while the strategic positioning provides direct access to both UNL Innovation Campus and northern employment centers without excessive commutes in either direction. Though lacking the architectural distinction of historic central neighborhoods, the practical advantages of more generous living spaces, better parking situations, and competitive rental rates creates compelling value for academic households seeking separation between campus environments and personal living spaces beyond purely student-oriented districts often experiencing seasonal turnover patterns affecting community stability important for year-round residents seeking consistent neighborhood experiences beyond academic calendar fluctuations.
