Although Arden-Arcade is part of the larger Sacramento metropolitan area, it’s still a wonderful city in its own right. It has the advantages of a small city located within a large metropolitan community with access to small town amenities and big city attractions.
Located near one of the main highways in north central California, you can hop on the freeway and take in the glorious sights and sounds of the metropolitan area. Known for its beautiful oak trees, Arden-Arcade is eye-candy for tree huggers, with lined oak tree streets, quiet high-income neighborhoods, and more places to shop than you can imagine. If you have a home business or are building one, Arden-Arcade is home to many small, family-owned businesses.
If you love shopping centers, food, and cars, you will be right at your self-proclaimed second home: the mall. Arden-Arcade is also home to the oldest school and country club in this part of California. Fun fact: The city was home to a number of governors for more than 15 years. Basically, it was home to California’s own governor’s mansion for a while. There are more than 92,000 residents living in Arden-Arcade as of 2010. The weather is typical for central California. During the summer months, the temperature’s average is about 90 degrees, and during the winter months it drops to a frigid 40. Snow, ice, and cold temperatures are pretty rare. It doesn’t rain often, but the rainy periods are from November to April.
The many shopping centers, restaurants, and car dealers located in the city are the hub of the city. What does this mean to you? Well, if you’re looking for a job in retail or service it means the chances of getting a job is pretty good. This city is loaded with shopping centers, so when you need to stock up on birthday presents, you’re in good shape.
Like most cities in California, Arden-Arcade can be pretty expensive to live in, especially since it’s home to some of the nicer and more expensive areas in the Sacramento metropolitan area. The vacancy rate is very low and most people are homeowners.
How much will it cost?
The cost of living is higher in Arden-Arcade than the national average so be prepared to dish out some hard-earned cash. Because the city has the majority of shopping centers in the metropolitan area, you may want to add a few hundred dollars to your expense account, especially if you are a natural-born shopper and enjoy decorating (and redecorating) your apartment.
When to rent?
Winter is typically a good time to rent in California. The summer and spring time can be busy with tourists, vacationers, and students taking up most of the rental agreements, which means the rent rates tend to be on the high end. Make sure you have the cash you need if you find something to beat out the competition.

You need enough money to put down a deposit, and perhaps first and last month’s rent as well. If you have a pet and the apartment accepts the breed you have, you will need the correct amount for that deposit. Competition to find an apartment in California can be fierce, so be sure you do your homework. Schedule an appointment with the apartment manager or landlord. There are about 30 neighborhoods in Arden-Arcade. Most of the wealthier communities are located close to the Del Paso Country Club. The ones situated alongside the American River are typically million-dollar homes. But no worries, there are other places that your wallet can afford.
Sierra Oaks: If you can afford it, Sierra Oaks is a wonderful place to live. There are lots of beautiful trees, spacious homes and apartments, and a quiet neighborhood. And bonus - this is a preservation area. $$$$
Arden Park: Home to a lot of suits with above-average incomes. Nice family community with plenty of nature attractions and activities. This is a preservation area. $$$$
Wilhaggin: A beautiful neighborhood surrounded by nature’s beauty. Quiet and serene. This area provides fishing, canoeing, and golf courses so you can practice your golf skills. $$$$
In addition to some seriously ritzy neighborhoods, the following are a little more affordable, and still nothing to scoff at:** Bohemian Heights, Byerford Heights, Camino Cottage Park, Del Dayo Estates $$$
American River Parkway: This is one of the best attractions in the city. If you love hiking, biking or long distance walking, you will enjoy the 26-mile trail that extends from Arden to Folsom Lake. If you’re looking for other activities, there are plenty of bars, clubs, bowling alleys, and golf courses, to name a few.
Life in this nestled community is convenient, comfortable, and attracts many nature lovers. Arden-Arcade is only minutes away from Lake Tahoe and Folsom Lake, and with a variety of places to shop and eat, there’s nothing not to love about living in this close-knit community.
