The borough of Rumson, NJ is thought to have acquired its name from Native Americans who lived in the region during the 1600s. Early colonists often traded rum for Native American goods, and members of the nearby tribes began to call the area Navarumsunk. The name was later shortened to Rumson as it is called today. Celebrate with a rum toddy or a Pina Colada!
Rumson is a borough community located in the county of Monmouth, New Jersey. It is also a part of the greater New York Metropolitan Area and is located only a short distance to the south of the major metropolitan hubs of both Manhattan and Staten Island. That's right, you'll be close to the Big Apple if you live here -- just a little over an hour away. At the time of the last major census, the total population was at about 7,100 people and it is continuing to grow. Rumson experienced a notable population boom between the years 2000 and 2010, increasing in size by more than 400 citizens. The borough is bordered by two major rivers -- the Shrewsbury River to the south and the Navesink River to the north. Rumson is also less than a mile from the shimmering Atlantic Ocean. The borough is only about 40 miles northeast of the city of Philadelphia, PA, as well, making it incredibly centrally located. But location, location, location is only one of this charming town's attributes. View Rumson City Guide
Balconies are a coveted amenity for many renters looking for high-rise views and opportunities for fresh air. However, you should keep in mind that balconies often come with restrictions.
Before signing a lease, ask about how many people can be on the balcony at once. Also, ask about whether you’re allowed to store a bike or other items.
You’ll also want to know about any maintenance schedules. Using your balcony as storage could result in fines and intervention from your property management.
Keep in mind that not all balconies are created equally. You may discover the views of the parking area are less than optimal or reduce your overall privacy.
Balconies can also get messy with debris, foliage, dirt, and pollen depending on your location. Renters are typically responsible for any clean-up and basic balcony upkeep.
Regardless of the issues to keep in mind, balconies are usually a big win for Rumson renters. Ask about apartments on higher floors for the best views.
