College town character defines Old North Columbus, where historic homes and apartments surround Ohio State University's northern boundary. The district centers around the vibrant High Street corridor with locally-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques creating walkable alternatives to campus chain establishments. The area's excellent public transportation includes multiple bus routes creating car-optional living unusual for typically automobile-oriented Midwestern cities, while the flat topography makes bicycle transportation practical throughout most months despite occasional winter weather interruptions requiring alternative planning during peak snow seasons.
