Columbus Rent Report: March 2024

Welcome to the Apartment List March 2024 Rent Report for Columbus, OH. Currently, the overall median rent in the city stands at $1,265, roughly the same as last month. Columbus rents are flat month-over-month and flat year-over-year

The median rent in Columbus fell by 0.3% over the course of February, and has now decreased by a total of 0.1% over the past 12 months. Columbus’s rent growth over the past year has has fallen behind the state average (1.8%) and is similar to the national average (-1.0%).

Columbus rent growth in 2024 pacing similar last year

Two months into the year, rents in Columbus have fallen 0.3%. This is a similar rate of growth compared to what the city was experiencing at this point last year: from January to February 2023 rents had decreased 0.0%.

February rent growth in Columbus ranked #86 among large U.S. cities

Columbus rents went down 0.3% in the past month, compared to the national rate of 0.2%. Among the nation's 100 largest cities, this ranks #86. Similar monthly rent growth took place in Arlington, TX (-0.3%) and Plano, TX (-0.3%).

Columbus is the #71 most expensive large city in the U.S., with a median rent of $1,265

Citywide, the median rent currently stands at $1,092 for a 1-bedroom apartment and $1,307 for a 2-bedroom. Across all bedroom sizes (ie, the entire rental market), the median rent is $1,265. That ranks #71 in the nation, among the country's 100 largest cities.

For comparison, the median rent across the nation as a whole is $1,210 for a 1-bedroom, $1,363 for a 2-bedroom, and $1,377 overall. The median rent in Columbus is 8.1% lower than the national, and is similar to the prices you would find in Reno, NV ($1,272) and Boise, ID ($1,234).
