National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Asheville’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters nationwide, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the country’s 111 million renters.

Artistic energy defines Downtown Asheville, where historic buildings house distinctive apartments above nationally-acclaimed restaurants and galleries. The walkable district surrounds Pack Square with its regular festivals and community events, while nearby microbreweries and performance venues create built-in entertainment beyond your apartment walls. Though tourist presence increases during weekends and peak seasons, the authentic community connections through independent businesses and cultural initiatives create distinctive living experiences beyond typical rental situations.
Historic elegance defines Kenilworth, where winding streets showcase impressive homes from Asheville's early 20th-century boom period. Rental options include apartments in divided historic properties and smaller buildings throughout this predominantly residential area. The neighborhood provides excellent access to both downtown Asheville and Biltmore Village shopping, creating an ideal environment for professionals seeking sophisticated surroundings beyond Asheville's more tourist-oriented districts.
Mountain serenity defines Chunn's Cove, where Asheville's eastern valley offers peaceful surroundings despite minutes from downtown amenities. The neighborhood features tree-covered hillsides creating natural privacy between properties, while the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway provides spectacular scenic drives and hiking access. Though requiring vehicle ownership, many residents find the natural beauty, quieter atmosphere, and significantly more living space worth this minor inconvenience compared to Asheville's increasingly dense and tourist-oriented central neighborhoods.
