Mahtomedi is a word from the Dakota Indian Tribe. It translates to "White Bear Lake." Though the city was founded in the late 1800s, its proximity to the water originally made it a place of reflection and peace for those looking for a summer cottage getaway. Today, residents of Mahtomedi pride themselves on maintaining that peaceful beauty that initially drew settlers to the area.
Mahtomedi is tucked away just east of White Bear Lake and west of Stillwater. Incorporated in 1931, as of 2010 it boasts a population of 7,676 and is nestled within Washington County in western Minnesota. Covering just under six square miles in area -- more than two square miles of that area include water, Mahtomedi is certainly an appealing area to look for places to rent. Even though there are no mountains, there are some gently rolling hills in Mahtomedi and it sits nearly at 1,000 feet above sea level. See more
Finding an apartment in Mahtomedi that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.
While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.
If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
