Grosse Pointe Woods is actually the only one of the Grosse Pointe communities that is not on the coast of Lake St. Clair.
To some extent, Grosse Pointe's heyday was in the past, back when this location was the choice of the top executives at the Big Three automakers. But don't let the relative lack of flash turn you off to Grosse Pointe Woods: this area is still stable and safe.

With so few vacancies, you might want to allow yourself extra time to find just the right place -- don't wait until the week before your current lease is up to start looking!
Because Grosse Pointe Woods prides itself so much on having stable residencies, you might have to do a little extra work to prove yourself. You'll need to have a stable job and good credit to get a house rental here, although some landlords may be willing to work with you if you have uncommon extenuating circumstances or are willing to put down extra deposits.
Grosse Pointe Woods is a bedroom community: the kind of place where people are more likely to have dinner parties than to wait at a bus stop for transportation. So even though you're less than 10 miles away from the business district of downtown Detroit, expect that you're probably going to have to drive yourself there. Yeah, it sucks that you don't get to be a green superhero on the road, but, hey, at least you can recycle and save water at home. That's got to do some good, right?
When you want to life in a safe, established and well regarded community, you really can't go wrong with a classic place like Grosse Pointe Woods.
