Apartment List has released Tallahassee’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.

"Tallahassee renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "Interestingly, ratings for Tallahassee vary widely across categories such as weather and pet-friendliness."

Key findings in Tallahassee include the following:

  • Tallahassee renters gave their city a F overall.
  • The highest-rated categories for Tallahassee were affordability (A) and social life (B+).
  • The areas of concern to Tallahassee renters are jobs and career opportunities and pet-friendliness, which both received D grades.
  • Millennial renters are unsatisfied with their city, giving it an overall rating of F.
  • Tallahassee did relatively poorly compared to other cities in Florida, including Tampa (B), Fort Lauderdale (B-) and Miami (C+).
  • Tallahassee did relatively poorly compared to other cities nationwide, including Nashville, TN (A-), Austin, TX (A-) and Denver, CO (B+).

Renters say:

  • "I love Tallahassee because it’s a laid-back city." – Angela P.
  • "Tallahassee is a college town but has a large adult population as well. Certain parts of town are better for different demographics." – Katy P.
  • "It’s an amazing place to raise a family and we have two great colleges. There’s a ton of parks and green spaces. But there’s pretty much no public transportation, most of the year is hot and humid, and the slower pace of life can make some people bored." – Courtney W.
  • "There is plenty to do for young adults or college-age individuals, but not so much for families to do together." – Kelly C.
