National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released results for Lakeland from the second annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. The survey, which drew on responses from over 30,000 renters, provides insight into what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the 105 million American renters nationwide.
“Renters in Lakeland expressed general satisfaction with their city,” says Andrew Woo, Director of Data Science at Apartment List. “Many categories received average or above-average scores.”
Key findings in Lakeland include the following:
Highlands Reserve offers golf course living with resort amenities in this southern Lakeland community. Rental properties typically include access to the championship golf course, community pools, and tennis facilities. While the area provides excellent access to both Bartow Highway shopping and Florida Southern College, summer brings intense heat affecting golf play during midday hours despite the premium positioning. Well-suited for golf enthusiasts seeking affordable course access beyond purely vacation communities who don't require walkable dining options.
Lakefront serenity defines Crystal Lake, where Lakeland's southern neighborhood surrounds its namesake water feature creating natural beauty within urban contexts. Most rentals offer water views or access to lake recreation, while the nearby commercial corridors provide practical amenities within easy reach. Though lacking Lakeland's historic downtown character, the combination of natural surroundings, more generous living spaces, and competitive rental rates compared to premium-priced historic district properties creates compelling value for households seeking balance between urban convenience and natural beauty increasingly difficult to achieve without significant financial compromises.
Windwood Bay features newer homes with family-friendly amenities in northwestern Lakeland. Rental properties typically include modern finishes, attached garages, and access to community facilities including pools and playgrounds. While the neighborhood provides good access to both I-4 connections and Lakeland Square Mall shopping, the location means longer commutes to either Tampa or Orlando despite the strategic positioning between major metros. Particularly appealing to families seeking newer construction with good school access who work locally in Lakeland.
