At the base of the Timpanogos Mountain, on the eastern region of Utah Lake sits a city that prides itself on community. It is a place where residents wake up to mountains in their backyard and where skiing is a beloved pastime. This small city of 80,000 is Orem, Utah. Sharing a metro area with Provo, Orem features many a good reason for you to call it “home.” For starters, a mild climate with all four seasons which allows for snowy but non-frigid winters, as well as a warm summer but not scorching heat. In terms of adventure and recreation, possibilities here are endless. Hiking/biking/running trails are located throughout the city. Rock climbing and snow sports are very “in” here and rec centers and parks are some of the busiest around.

Orient Yourself with Orem - Neighborhoods:

Although Orem is small it is made up of many different neighborhoods, each with something unique to offer residents. Because there is no one 'must-move' place in the city, any neighborhood that intrigues you is perfect to call home. Here we have listed some of the more popular neighborhoods in Orem but keep in mind there are plenty of others (Cascade, Aspen, Orchard, Orem North, etc. to choose from).

Lakeview: Close to the good shopping. Lakeview is aptly named for its amazing view of Utah Lake and the nearby mountains. The housing here tends to be single family houses and apartment homes. The houses in this are typically medium to large sized dwellings. The apartments around Lakeview are aplenty and often feature fireplaces, fitness centers, whirlpools and other amenities. Another perk of living here is the proximity to Nielsen’s Grove, a historic park which has been restored with new ponds and walkways. The Grove is undoubtedly a great place to spend the weekend.

Cherry Hill: Located in the southwest region of Orem, Cherry Hill is a neighborhood made up of single family homes, townhomes and apartment complexes. Close enough to shopping and entertainment, yet suburban enough, Cherry Hill is a trendy neighborhood. While a two bedroom is priced around $799, amenities often include indoor pools, covered parking/garages, picnic areas and upgraded kitchens. For commuters the area offers great proximity to two major highways (89 and 265). The homes here range in date—between established (1970s) and newer, as well as medium and large (sometimes seven bedrooms!) with huge yards.

Sunset Heights: This area is home to the city’s ballpark (Brent Brown Ballpark). Located near the I-15 corridor (and the 265), this end of town offers residents the ability to hit the road in no time. Those residing in the Sunset Heights area can enjoy local golf courses, skate parks and various outdoor spaces. In fact, Sunset Heights has deemed itself a very “happening” area of town. A walkable area. Most of the homes are large, well tended and established—some are even historic, having been built in the ‘30s, but there are also a large amount of apartments available as well.

Orem South/City Center: Living in Orem South, residents are close to two city parks, right near Highway 89 for commuting. Apartments, single family homes (medium to large size) a mix of older and newer homes. While there are a lot of spacious single family homes located in the area, that does not mean there is a shortage of apartments in the area. Featuring fitness centers, pools, picnic areas and proximity to entertainment.

Transportation:

Getting from place to place to place in Orem is a relatively easy task, whether you rely on public transit or have your own set of wheels. For the driving type, I-15 is strongly relied upon for longer commutes, day trips and exploring Utah. It can take residents from Orem all the way to Salt Lake City and further throughout the state. Additionally, 265 and Highway 89 bring residents in and around the major areas of Orem. Serving the Orem/Provo area, the 265 and 89 bring drivers east or west.

Public transit in Orem is made up of a bus system, TRAX and MAX (two rail systems that serve Orem and the surrounding areas), which have various stops throughout the Orem area and beyond. The area also offers a ski service during ski season in which residents can take a bus to popular ski areas.
