National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Yonkers's results from the first annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. The survey, which drew on responses from over 18,000 renters, provides new insights into what states and cities must do to meet the needs of the 105 million American renters nationwide.
"Yonkers renters rank far below average for city satisfaction driven by low grades for safety and the economy," says Andrew Tam, Vice President of Data Science at Apartment List. "The US renter population is at its highest level in 20 years, and renters show particular sensitivity to safety when choosing a place to live, an area where Yonkers struggles."

While the area provides excellent value compared to nearby New York City with straightforward transit access, property conditions vary significantly between blocks requiring local knowledge. Most suitable for commuters seeking value with Manhattan accessibility who don't require luxury amenities or consistent neighborhood character throughout the district.
The Hudson River views would cost triple in Manhattan, yet Downtown Yonkers delivers waterfront living at surprisingly reasonable rates. The neighborhood's industrial-chic converted factories and mills now house some of Westchester County's most distinctive apartments, with soaring ceilings and oversized windows flooding spaces with natural light. Metro-North's Hudson Line stations provide easy access to Midtown in under 30 minutes – often faster than commuting from Brooklyn or Queens. The developing waterfront includes parks and promenades perfect for evening strolls, while the diverse restaurant scene reflects the area's multicultural population. Many newer buildings include amenities rarely found at similar price points elsewhere – rooftop decks, fitness centers, and package reception systems addressing the practical realities of modern urban living.
