Top neighborhoods in Bronx

  • Riverdale

What it’s like to live in Riverdale

Leafy sophistication characterizes Riverdale, where pre-war apartment buildings and historic mansions create a distinctly non-urban atmosphere despite Bronx location. Residents enjoy the extensive Wave Hill public gardens and the neighborhood's significant green spaces unusual for New York City. Though Manhattan commutes require planning via express bus or subway, the trade-off comes in more square footage, architectural character, and greenery than possible in most city neighborhoods. Many buildings feature Art Deco details and unexpectedly spacious floor plans that have attracted notable residents throughout the neighborhood's distinguished history.

What it’s like to live in Fordham Manor

Located near Fordham University and the New York Botanical Garden, this Bronx enclave blends academic energy with urban convenience. Renters enjoy excellent transit options with multiple subway lines creating car-free living possibilities throughout the city. Despite its urban setting, nearby Bronx Park offers surprising green space – a welcome respite from city intensity just steps from most rental properties.

    Throgs Neck

What it’s like to live in Throgs Neck

Maritime character defines Throgs Neck, where this Bronx peninsula extends into the East River creating a surprisingly suburban feel within New York City limits. Residents enjoy waterfront parks, authentic Italian restaurants along East Tremont Avenue, and more parking than typically found in New York neighborhoods. Though public transportation options are more limited than central Bronx areas, the trade-off comes in larger living spaces and water views rare in the city. The neighborhood's strong Italian-American heritage manifests in summer street festivals and family-owned businesses spanning generations.

Living in Bronx, NY

Celebrated for both its up-yours attitude toward life and its pigheadedness in solving the latest social ills, the Bronx scatters the urban excitement and diverse population of New York City over wider and more affordable spaces. Unfairly characterized as a less-than-savory collection of tenement buildings, the borough also boasts architecturally awesome estates and about 7,000 acres of park land. Since the 1980s, large-scale community fixes have launched the Bronx on an upward trajectory and made it a great place to search for rentals.

While house rent in the Bronx is more affordable than Manhattan, if you're coming from out of the area, be prepared for sticker shock
