Originally built for Goodyear Tire employees, this historic Akron neighborhood offers charming homes and surprising affordability. The area features Goodyear Heights Metro Park with hiking trails and recreation facilities just steps from residential streets. Rental options typically provide more space than downtown alternatives, though some properties require updates with varied conditions throughout the neighborhood.
Tree-lined streets with historic homes characterize West Akron, where Akron's most established neighborhood offers rental options in a more suburban-feeling environment. The area surrounds Stan Hywet Hall, the impressive Tudor Revival mansion built by Goodyear Tire founder F.A. Seiberling. Though rental availability can be limited in this predominantly owner-occupied district, apartments in divided larger homes offer rare access to this desirable area with excellent schools and parks.
Craft beer culture thrives at the Akron Art Museum's "Art & Ale" nights and R. Shea Brewing's experimental taps. Renters in historic homes face lead paint abatement costs but enjoy quick Towpath Trail access.
