City Guide for Wimauma, FL

What the heck is a Wimauma anyway? It's the first two or three letters from the names of the daughters of the town's founder C.H. Davis. Wonder where Willie, Maude and Mary are today?

Wimauma, Florida (pronounced Why-MAUGH-muh) is an unincorporated area in western Florida about a 30 minute drive, or an eight hour walk, from the southern end of Tampa. But don't walk it; it's too hot outside here. It could almost be considered a suburb of the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, although the population crush of those city's doesn't quite extend as far as Wimauma. This is a rural community that is primarily residential, meaning you're not going to find a lot to do entertainment-wise within the boundaries of the town, and it's not located along a major highway or interstate. The Church of God Campground, a retreat center, is the closest thing Wimauma has to a community center. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for apartments with hardwood floors in Wimauma, FL

Scoring an apartment with hardwood floors can be a big win for Wimauma renters. They`re typically a beautiful addition to your space. They’re also easier to clean and sweep, particularly if you have pets.

However, there are some downsides. Hardwood floors carry sounds. They can also make your apartment noisy for your roommates and downstairs neighbors.

Ask the landlord or property manager about the hardwood floors before signing a lease. Are they actually hardwood or a popular composite alternative? The latter is probably easier to clean and care for than the real thing.

It’s also important to ask about who’s responsible for any damage to the floors and what that entails. Your security deposit could take a hit from scratches, dents, and other damage.

Consider the type of climate you live in. Hardwood floors typically don’t fare well in damp climates full of moisture. Stains and buckling are common in hardwood floors after rain flooding or excessive moisture.

However, hardwood floors can be ideal for dry climates or sunny areas for renters who love the way they look.
