Mira Monte is a census designated place in Ventura County, California. The name more or less translates into English as "Looking Mount," which is a little strange since it's located at the center of Ojai Valley, just south of the mountains. Home to just under 7,000 people (at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census), the community shares its name with Miramonte, another Californian town in Fresno County. The latter name makes a lot more sense considering it sits 3,000 feet above sea level. It makes you wonder about the kind of people who first settled here, doesn't it?
