"Flowers in the ground they wilt way / Sun in the sky it fades away / Make the funniest shapes from the cloud so grey / The breeze in the trees they blow my way." -- From "Monte" by Zee Avi
Mira Monte is a census designated place in Ventura County, California. The name more or less translates into English as "Looking Mount," which is a little strange since it's located at the center of Ojai Valley, just south of the mountains. Home to just under 7,000 people (at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census), the community shares its name with Miramonte, another Californian town in Fresno County. The latter name makes a lot more sense considering it sits 3,000 feet above sea level. It makes you wonder about the kind of people who first settled here, doesn't it?
Mira Monte is too small to mention any obvious neighborhood differences, but there are a few different sections that you should know about if you plan on moving in

Neighborhoods and Places to Rent in Mira Monte
Mira Monte is too small to mention any obvious neighborhood differences, but there are a few different sections that you should know about if you plan on moving in. The village is split vertically by Highway 33, and most of the residential areas lay on the western side. This is not the sort of town with high rise apartments, but there are plenty of mobile homes if you are interested in a 1 or 2 bedroom rental. Check out the Ojai Oaks Mobile Home Park and Ojai Villa Mobile Estates for some of the most affordable places to rent in Mira Monte.
North, across Highway 150, you'll find a few more mobile parks, as well as cute house rentals nestled snugly into cul de sacs. South, on North Ventura Drive, there are homes so new, pristine and classically "cute" they could be featured in a magazine. None of these come cheap, however -- just like in the rest of California!
Since there is no municipal government in Mira Monte, you'll need to contact the nearby City of Ojai Valley to ask about water, trash, power and other hookups for your new home.
What's Cool About Mira Monte?
The immense Los Padres National Forest is just minutes away! Come enjoy nature at its absolute best with biking, hiking or camping! There's no camping from June until the first rains of fall, but there's an interesting story behind that. It involves Johnny Cash and his truck catching on fire. The result is that locals and visitors do not get to camp with fires in the summer. Better to be safe than sorry. Besides, in this day and age, there's probably an app for a campfire, anyway.
So come on over and meet the neighbors. Just don't do what the Man in Black did!
