Established in 1884 and incorporated as a city in 1949, Red Oak is home to 11,081 residents that have the pleasure of calling this area home. Red Oak is a thriving, 7.8 square mile community within northern Ellis County, about 20 miles south of Dallas on I-35. Renowned for its beauty, Red Oak was used for three days as the film site for the motion picture Bonnie and Clyde back in 1967. More recently -- 1986 to be exact -- the town was used as the exterior location for a film by Talking Heads front man David Byrne, entitled True Stories.
Moving to Red Oak
If you are trying to find a pet-friendly apartment in Red Oak, there are quite a few places to look. With a wide variety of apartment complexes that offer studios, one- and two- bedroom apartments and apartment homes, many of these rentals will also happily allow your pooch or kitten to join you. To make sure you get the rental of your dreams, you'll need the usual kit of renters' tools: proof of employment, rental history, and money to throw down on a deposit and first month's rent. It never hurts to also have your credit scores and references already printed out and in-hand when going to a showing.
Neighborhoods of Red Oak
Red Oak consists of two main neighborhoods that are separated by N. Central Blvd. Elva is the neighborhood on the west side and City Center is on the east side. Each has its own qualities and characteristics that are highlighted below to help you decide which neighborhood will suit your needs.
City Center: Red Oak Valley Golf Club sits in the southern corner of this neighborhood and is a course heavily favored by the locals. The commute from this neighborhood is an easy jump onto I-35, which spans the length of the area from south to north. The complexes and homes in this neighborhood were mostly built between the 1950s and the 1990s, so they are well established and boast enormous, mature red oaks that turn brilliant shades of -- you guessed it -- red, each autumn.
Elva: Finding a rental apartment or a house to rent in the Elva neighborhood isn't too difficult, and if you are a fan of modern, this is the area of town you will favor. Most of the properties were built after the 1970s, as well as some that were built after the year 2000. The commute from this neighborhood is only slightly longer than from the City Center area, because you have to cross through City Center to be able to reach I-35, but we are only talking about a five-minute difference.
