Hewitt, along with several neighboring communities and some unincorporated areas of McLennan County, is served by the Midway Independent School District. There are six elementary schools, two intermediate schools, one middle school and one high school. The climate of east Texas is much like most of the South. Summers are hot and humid (thanks to the Gulf of Mexico), topping out at a wet and sticky 95 in July. This often feels more like 100 with the heat index.
