City Guide for St. Augustine Shores, FL

When developers first began "adding character" to the St. Augustine Shores community in the late 1960s and early 1970s, 58 acres were set aside for parks and 45 acres for recreational sites along the Intercoastal Waterway. Still today, this is an outdoor recreation lover's paradise, with more than 150 miles of bike paths and 14 lake and ponds. Not to mention the St. Augustine Shores Golf Club, which is one of the top recreation destinations in this part of Florida.

St. Augustine Shores is a city of approximately 7,359 residents (2010 U.S. Census data) along the northeastern coast of Florida. Compared to the rest of the country, the cost of living here is about 7 percent lower than the national average, which is a nice surprise for a coastal city. In this community, you can take advantage of the 12,000-square-foot recreation building along the waterway, the 180,000-gallon pool, 500-foot pier with a gazebo, and a private golf course suitable for all skill levels. Although St. Augustine Shores is located less than five miles from St. Augustine, the oldest permanent settlement in North America, the buildings here have only been around since around the 1970s. What to keep in mind when looking for apartments with parking in St. Augustine Shores, FL

Parking can be at a premium in some cities where spaces are challenging to find. Some St. Augustine Shores apartments offer parking options, either outside in a common area or within a private garage.

Ask about the stipulations around the parking. Those may include how many guests are allowed and where tenants park.

Some apartments may only allow parking in front of your own unit. Guest parking may be in a common area for up to one person.

If parking is scarce, look around the area before you sign a lease. Ample street parking in a neighborhood championed for its safety is probably fine. However, it’s probably not worth signing a lease if it means battling for daily parking for you and your guests.

Research whether you need a city permit to park in the neighborhood. Look into the associated costs and what to do about visitors who need parking.

Some tenants prefer garage parking near their units. However, an open-air lot may prove cheaper.

Keep in mind that the cost of wear and tear from parking outside can add up. It may be less expensive, in the long run, to look for an apartment with garage parking.
