Border city renaissance energizes Downtown El Paso, where historic buildings alongside newer developments create architectural diversity reflecting the district's ongoing transformation. Distinctive loft apartments in converted commercial buildings offer character details unavailable in conventional rental properties at surprisingly accessible price points compared to similar urban cores across comparable Southwestern cities. Perched on the eastern slopes of the Franklin Mountains, Morningside Heights rewards residents with panoramic views of El Paso and Mexico beyond. Homes here tend to be larger with more yard space than central neighborhoods, making them popular with families. The elevated location provides cooler temperatures during El Paso's intense summers, though winter occasionally brings driving challenges on the steeper streets.
Historic architecture with international views defines Sunset Heights, where this border-adjacent neighborhood showcases El Paso's distinctive past. Many rental homes feature Southwestern styling with details like tile roofs, arched doorways, and interior courtyards. From higher streets, properties often capture views across the Rio Grande into Mexico, while the neighborhood's positioning provides walking access to both downtown El Paso and UTEP campus.
