True to its name, Lakeview offers American Lake vistas from many properties in this western Lakewood neighborhood. Rental homes typically feature generous lots with mature evergreens creating natural privacy screens between properties. The neighborhood provides easy access to both Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Interstate 5 connections to Tacoma and Olympia, making it popular with military households and government employees working in either direction.
Military renters value South Lakes for its proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord along with rental properties specifically calibrated to BAH rates. The neighborhood's quiet atmosphere provides welcome contrast to on-base activity, while maintained bike paths offer stress-reducing commute alternatives to base traffic. Many properties feature flexible lease terms accommodating deployment schedules and TDY assignments. Though aircraft noise occasionally interrupts outdoor activities, most rental units include enhanced insulation specifically designed for military communities—creating surprisingly peaceful interiors despite exterior sound levels.
Military families appreciate North Lakewood's proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord while maintaining separation from on-base living. Residents enjoy the neighborhood's established parks and quick access to I-5 for Seattle or Olympia commutes. Though aircraft noise occasionally interrupts outdoor activities, the community's affordability compared to Tacoma proper creates opportunities for service members to find comfortable housing within their allowances. The area's unpretentious, practical atmosphere reflects the military influence, with neighbors understanding the unique challenges of deployment cycles and frequent relocations.
