Goshen, aka "The Maple City", is a great place for any renter to call home. We've got plenty of rental properties in our listings, but before you scroll through those, read up on what it's like to live in this little city on the Indiana border.
Located in a region known as Michiana, this sleepy town is home to the first Wal-Mart in the United States to provide a covered stable to park your horse at. It’s also home the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, the Elkhart River, the Goshen Dam Pond, and a beautiful Rock Run Creek that runs through town. Goshen is also home to a kick-butt soccer club, with a championship-winning professional soccer team. And now, a restored downtown throws weekly parties, First Fridays, with live music and stores that stay open until 9 PM (yes, that's late here). So, if you're ready for a tight-knit river community, then Goshen is the place for you!
When it comes to apartments for rent, you have myriad options. There are old industrial brick buildings renovated into vintage-style apartments, there are townhome-style and ranch house-style apartments with small fenced in yards (a very dog friendly feature). There are also some really nice manufactured homes and refurbished homes for rent. These are available as single family homes, duplexes, and fourplexes. The really great thing about the older houses is they often have nice, big front porches to hang out on and wave at neighbors, not to mention the character of a historical Hoosier house. Rental rates are pleasantly affordable, too, typically ranging from $400 a month to about $700. It's not hard to find a great apartment for less than $500, or less than $400 for that matter. It is, however, pretty hard to spend more than a grand a month on any rental. Although, I'm sure if you looked really hard for an enormous four bedroom house rental with its own pool and hot tub, then you might be able to spend more than $1,000. Keep in mind that most renters must pay a deposit equal to one month's rent.
Unfortunately for the amenity-dependent, most apartments around here don't come with long lists of amenities. You might find a place with a laundry room and a pool, but that's about it. However, what you can find is rental units that come with their own yard, attached garage, washer and dryer, and attic for extra storage space. And, for what rentals lack in amenities, they more than make up for in character.
Pet owners will be happy to know that Goshen rentals are perfect for pets. Pet-friendly is a common term around here, with most apartments accepting both dogs and cats. There are also plenty of wooded areas, creeks, and trails to take the dog for a walk, as well as rentals that come with their own yard. A dog friendly delight!
So, that's about it for this friendly little Michiana city. Come on down and rent with us for a while!
Balconies are a coveted amenity for many renters looking for high-rise views and opportunities for fresh air. However, you should keep in mind that balconies often come with restrictions.
Before signing a lease, ask about how many people can be on the balcony at once. Also, ask about whether you’re allowed to store a bike or other items.
You’ll also want to know about any maintenance schedules. Using your balcony as storage could result in fines and intervention from your property management.
Keep in mind that not all balconies are created equally. You may discover the views of the parking area are less than optimal or reduce your overall privacy.
Balconies can also get messy with debris, foliage, dirt, and pollen depending on your location. Renters are typically responsible for any clean-up and basic balcony upkeep.
Regardless of the issues to keep in mind, balconies are usually a big win for Goshen renters. Ask about apartments on higher floors for the best views.
