It's hard not to think of John Candy when you imagine Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where you'll find the tiny town of Sheboygan Falls. In the movie "Home Alone," the actor played the leader of a band of polka magicians who had rented a van to drive across the country during the busy holiday season to return to their home in Sheboygan County. While John Candy's role was minimal, his mock Wisconsin accent and general gaiety are hard to forget, and the characters trucked across the country to their home town, which isn't far from Chicago or nearby Milwaukee.

Sheboygan Falls is actually just south of, and included in, the Sheboygan metropolitan area, so it's easy to confuse the two even if locals would look at you like you're as crazy as John Candy was in "Home Alone" for doing so! Sheboygan Falls is much smaller; however, support from Sheboygan's transit system ensures that you're connected to shopping, restaurants and work, which makes your search for apartments in Sheboygan Falls much easier. Highways 23, 28 and 32 are the most common routes in and out of the small town, and transport by railway has always been popular for goods.

Moving to Sheboygan Falls

Start the search for your new home about a month before you plan to move. You might want more time if you're moving from out of state. In addition to providing yourself with plenty of time, make sure to have a copy of your credit report and a cash or money order to cover first month's rent and security deposit. Neighborhoods

You might not develop an accent as outrageous as John Candy's after living in Sheboygan Falls, but you might just find yourself calling it home.

Downtown: Like many small Wisconsin towns, Sheboygan Falls has a historic downtown, and a stroll will take you past original buildings, now converted to modern shopping and dining. Some duplexes for rent were once large single-family homes that belonged to the town's upper-crust.

East Sheboygan: If a larger, newer home is up your alley, look for homes near the golf course to the east. If you want to be closer to Sheboygan to have more access to city life, then looking for apartments with paid utilities on the eastside of Sheboygan Falls might be for you, while you can often find rental homes with attached farm in some of the more rural outposts of the town.

North Sheboygan: To the northeast is the Sheboygan Marsh State Wildlife Area, and Sheboygan Falls is home to plenty of parks if you're an avid outdoors-man or woman -- or even if you're not quite as skilled as you think you are!

Living in Sheboygan Falls

Life in Sheboygan Falls is delicately balanced between the old and classic, and the modern and fast-paced. There's an annual antique car show in Sheboygan Falls, complete with a race of 3,000 rubber duckies through Sheboygan River for cash prizes! For 25 years, Sheboygan Falls has played host to the so-called Ducktona 500. Sheboygan Falls is also just a short drive from Lake Michigan, where you can participate in many of the activities that Wisconsinites love, the least of which is fishing. When the lake freezes over during winter months, break out your boots and gloves and head back to land. Hop on the highway and you'll soon be in Milwaukee or Madison or cheering on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field!
