At one time--specifically, during the Colonial period--South Amboy was a stagecoach stop for weary travelers headed toward Philadelphia. One of the pubs that sprang up during this time was the Rattoon Tavern, owned by John Rattoon - an English loyalist. Reportedly, Rattoon acted as a conveyor of messages for the traitor, Benedict Arnold, who penned missives about George Washington and his so-called band of rebels. Fortunately, today, South Amboy is a little more transparent, if not, a laid-back place to live.
Located in Middlesex in New Jersey, South Amboy sits along Raritan Bay
