Spring Hill itself is just outside of Tampa and with just under 100,000 residents it's a great city to hang out in for a few decades. There is great weather and of course the mermaids at Weeki Watchee. How can you not love a place that has mermaids?

Moving to Spring Hill

As for getting your papers in order, not a problem here. People are pretty laid back but you can expect a credit check. If your credit is less than outstanding and you are wanting to move into a place that is in high demand then you might want to include a few references from your previous landlord and proof of income. Pets are the norm here but you should include a reference for them as well; it can help you avoid a pet deposit and/or a monthly pet fee. Plan to pay a good size security deposit.

If you are from virtually anyplace in the US you are going to be amazed at how inexpensive it is to live in a tropical paradise like Spring Hill! The cost of living here is not bad compared to the nation as a whole and down right cheap compared to most states with this climate and proximity to the ocean.

Neighborhoods

This is Florida and the atmosphere is generally relaxed and laid back. It's probably all of that humid air with the smell of the ocean in it but no one really seems to be overly uptight in Spring

Hernando Beach: This is a prime location. It also, thanks to the higher than average rents, has a lot of vacancies. Nearly a quarter of the properties here are empty so don't necessarily accept the response when inquiring about the rents. Try and negotiate a lower rate. The worst that can happen is you will be told no. You are close to the water and you have a short commute time, roughly under 30 minutes.

Barclay Ave: There are plenty of rental properties. The rates are a bit high for the community but they tend to be spacious and have great views.

Clarendon Court: The homes here are nice and there is ample opportunity for renting very nice 2-3 bedroom apartments. Most have glorious views and the prices are good.

Breakwater: This neighborhood is pretty much middle everything but commute. It's middle range on the apartment rates that are about middle range on size and nearly the middle of the community. The commutes however are beyond outstanding; the average person has only a 15 minute of less commute to work. If you are living in one of the larger urban areas you are swooning right now, admit it!

Town Center:This is a newer part of the community and most of the homes and apartments here are 15 years old or less. The newness has gone well with the lower rents and people are actively moving into the area. The area is popular but the building rate is outpacing population growth so there are plenty of vacant places with some really nice amenities. This is a great place to land if you relocate to Spring Hill. You can get a very nice new apartment for a great price and a generally short commute. Be sure to look around here and feel free to negotiate the already reasonable rates. It's a renters market so take advantage of it.

Timber Pines:This is an older and more established area of Spring Hill. The people are friendly and it's an all around nice place to live.

Windward: It's a relaxed and artsy kind of place with friendly people. Vacancy rates here are good enough to make negotiating already reasonable rental rates a valid possibility and the area is extremely pet friendly.

Shady Hills:This is a neighborhood with plenty of reasonably priced vacancies but there is a catch to this windfall. The catch is that you either need to downsize or up size. You can find plenty of studio and 1 bedroom places and plenty of 4-5 bedroom places. But 2-3 bedroom places are strangely absent. The homes and apartments are older but most have been remodeled in recent years.

Anderson Snow Road:There are several great parks. Given the vacancy rate, the rental prices are good but negotiate when you can for an even better deal. Most of the places are 15-25 years old and have been remodeled at least once since they were built. The amenities will vary widely from building to building so be sure to check them out before committing to a place.

Loyce:When there are rentals, they are cheaper than most other neighborhoods.

Living in Spring Hill

The weather in Spring Hill -- while a draw -- isn't necessarily a tropical paradise. The summers are hot and humid while the winters are warm and humid. Humidity is a fact of life here. It's the fault of the ocean, it's sort of wet. However, if you love the ocean, there's nowhere better to be. You can lay on the beach here, as well as swim, boat, kayak, canoe, parasail and more. Spring Hill is a great, affordable beach town to live in -- consider looking into moving if you want somewhere cheap to live in Florida that's also very nice!
