National study of renter’s satisfaction with their cities and states
Apartment List has released Manchester’s results from the third annual Apartment List Renter Satisfaction Survey. This survey, which drew on responses from over 45,000 renters, provides insight on what states and cities must do to meet the needs of 111 million American renters nationwide.
"Manchester renters expressed general dissatisfaction with the city overall," according to Apartment List. "They gave most categories average scores."
Key findings in Manchester include the following:
Renters say:
"Great city to live in but the growing opioid epidemic has really hit NH hard." – Allison C. "Our community is fantastic here! Love activities like swimming, hiking and walking. Very pet-friendly." – Anon. "It’s a little overcrowded but the parks are great." – Jessica D. "Manchester is a small city so I don’t feel overwhelmed. It’s also a really quiet city. Unfortunately, the opiate and homeless problems are becoming too prevalent, but the community does have resources to help. There are a lot of very caring people here." – Todd T.

Historic brick mills converted to distinctive apartments define Northwest Manchester's unique character. Many units feature soaring ceilings, exposed beams, and oversized windows flooding spaces with natural light. The neighborhood offers excellent access to both downtown amenities and highway connections to Boston, making it popular with commuters seeking urban character without Massachusetts housing costs.
Corey Square offers urban living with historic character in this central Manchester neighborhood. Rental options include apartments in converted mill buildings and traditional New England multi-family homes. The area provides excellent access to both downtown employment and the developing Millyard district, creating convenient positioning for households seeking value with urban accessibility in New Hampshire's largest city.
Urban revival energizes Downtown Manchester, where New Hampshire's largest city continues developing its central district along the Merrimack River. Rental options include apartments in converted mill buildings and newer developments with river views. While the neighborhood offers exceptional walkability to dining, shopping, and entertainment options, weekend activity creates noise that carries through older buildings with limited soundproofing. Well-suited for young professionals and empty nesters who value urban energy within New Hampshire's typically suburban landscape who don't mind occasional evening noise.
