Apartment List is committed to the accuracy and transparency of our rent estimates. We begin with reliable median rent statistics from the Census Bureau, then extrapolate them forward to the current month using a growth rate calculated from our listing data. In doing so, we use a same-unit analysis similar to Case-Shiller’s approach, capturing apartment transactions over time to provide an accurate picture of rent growth in cities across the country. Our approach corrects for the sample bias inherent in other private sources, producing results that are much closer to statistics published by the Census Bureau and HUD. For more details, please see the Apartment List Rent Estimate Methodology.
Apartment List publishes monthly rent reports and underlying data for hundreds of cities across the nation, as well as data aggregated for counties, metros, and states. These data are intended to be a source of reliable information that help renters and policymakers make sound decisions. Insights from our data are covered regularly by journalists across the country. Let’s not kid ourselves: Of all the 50 states, North Dakota might get the least amount of props. Most Americans (except for 3rd graders, that is) probably can’t name its capital (Bismarck) or its most populated city (Fargo) or even pinpoint its location on a map (it’s the one “on top of” South Dakota, believe it or not). It’s safe to say the only reason most Americans have even heard of Fargo is thanks to the Coen brothers’ movie of the same name (“Oh, yah? Yah!”) Still, as the old saying in the Dakotas goes, “What do we care what the rest of the country thinks of us? We know how much we totally rock!” Okay, fine, maybe that’s not really a saying, but our point is that certain parts of the “Peace Garden State,” especially Fargo, are actually hip, happening places that offer as much culture and excitement as any mid-sized American city. So what do you say? Are you ready to leave popular misperception behind and find your dream apartment in Fargo? Then stick with us, because your future Dakota domicile may be a few simple clicks away!
There are art galleries, museums, coffeehouses, bookstores, music venues, and a variety of pubs, clubs, and every type of watering hole you could imagine
