Moving to Washington
There are some things you should know as you pack up your U-Haul and head northwest to Washington state.
Availability
Depending on the neighborhood you're looking at, you can have great luck finding a place, or it can require some legwork. The Peasant Valley Fairgrounds neighborhood usually doesn't have many openings, but if you come across an opening, jump on it quick -- it's one of the best areas in town.
Money
As we've already discussed, all the manicured lawns and cul-de-sacs come at a price. You can expect to find premier apartments to rent, depending on how big they are and who you rent from. You should also be prepared to pay first and last month's rent on the spot, and some places require a security deposit. Landlords love it when renters pay up front.
Weather
Being so far up north has its perks and drawbacks. Washington has cooler temperatures, with the average temperature in the summer at 66 degrees, and 42 degrees in the winter. Washington also gets a lot of rain, so bring your umbrella and galoshes. On the plus side, the air quality is darn near perfect.
Neighborhoods
Deciding where you want to live will most likely depend on how far you have to commute to work (the average for Mount Vista residents is 25 minutes) and how close you want to be to all the action.
South and East: The southern and eastern parts of town have more coffee shops and public transportation, since they're close Washington State University, Vancouver.
West: The western areas are where you will find all of your shops, dining areas, and access to the main highways.
North: The northern areas are mostly residential, and you should be able to find more options for renting here.
Life in Mount Vista
Living in Mount Vista, you can spend your time shopping or dining in town. There's Billygan's Roadhouse, Planet Thai and Jollie's Restaurant & Lounge. When you want to spend your days outdoors, take a tour of the Washington State University campus. There are also plenty of community events to get involved in and meet your fellow Mount Vista neighbors.
