The city of Carrizo Springs is located 45 miles north of the Mexican border in southwest Texas, with U.S. Route 83 stretching right through the center of town. The city's name is derived from artesian springs located in the area, which were named for the cane grass that used to grow around them. Although the city was founded in 1865, it did not incorporate until 1910.
