City GuideCary

One has to wonder if William Dennison Cary traveled through time and saw how much the 82 acre parcel of land be purchased for a mere $1.25 per acre had become what is now Cary, Illinois, what he would say.

Would he be pleased with the progress the area has made, or would he wish for things to go back to the way they were before the railroad made arrangements to run a track straight through his property? Were it not for that railroad and a little station that was quickly dubbed Cary Station, it's likely the land would still be used for farming.

Knowing the Area

Cary, Illinois has many great things to offer its residents, and there's true beauty on each corner. However, this beauty certainly does come at a price. The projected cost of living in Cary is approximately 10% higher than the standard cost of living in the state of Illinois, and 5% higher than the national average.

If you ever get tired of its own reserved luxury, Cary is a mere 44 miles from Chicago, making it easy to run into Chi-town for shopping, entertainment and employment opportunities. All the benefits of Chicago, without all the drawbacks. Just a 45-minute drive or leisurely Metra train ride away from the big city, the charming village of Cary is the hidden gem of Chicagoland. Most of the current residents in Cary prefer living there to the city because of Cary's small-town charm, plus the average cost of living in Cary is more reasonable. You should expect to pay extra if you intend to bring a pet. Most of the available apartments are in large apartment complexes where you'll live in close association with your neighbors.
