Snellville is definitely a town that's not afraid to toot its own horn. If you are looking for a town with good self-esteem, look no further. Snellville may be a small town, but it comes with a big history. Back in good old 1874, two teenage boys moved to the area from England ready to explore what was then known as "The New World." One of the boys was named Thomas Snell and the other was named Charles Sawyer. To make a long story short, Sawyer eventually split to go into the apparently exciting turpentine business over in Alabama but Snell stayed behind and began to work on a farm. Snell went back and forth to multiple cities for a while but finally settled for good in the county Snellville lies in today. When he first opened a store referred to as "Snellville," history was made. The store was a huge hit and brought in lots of people. Soon a post office opened and he even became the postmaster of his own town.
There are over 5,000 homes in Snellville today and you can also find many great rental apartments, rental housing, and the odd studio apartment for rent. There are also several city parks, a great bus system that was recently developed in 2007 and a popular medical center in Snellville. This little hot spot even has its own daily paper -- the Gwinnett Daily Post. It is great to be able to spend time outdoors in the steamy summers and rarely double your layers in the mild winters. It is most definitely a relaxing and happy area to settle down for anyone.
Along with driving through the streets of town, check out the local newspaper, and online listings, too, to find the home you want in this community. This is the kind of spot where you can stop in at a shop or cafe and ask if anyone knows about rentals that are available. So put on your friendly small-town smile, and start looking. Ranch-style homes with large front and backyards are quite common here, but smaller rental apartments in Snellville are also popular. It is probably a good plan to visit firsthand to get a better idea of what works best for your needs.
Snellville is definitely a tight-knit community and a very small area of land, so neighborhoods aren't incredibly distinct, but there are a few things to keep in mind when you're looking.
Southern Snellville: This is the place to look if you want to rent, since the rest of Snellville is mainly single-unit homes. Look here for apartments and condos for rent as well as premier apartments in the more southern part of Snellville.
Highway 20: If you are looking to live in an area a little closer to the rural life, you will find more open space near Highway 20. Just a few miles to the west, you will be able to enjoy hiking, fishing, and camping at the beautiful Stone Mountain Park -- home of Stone Mountain itself.
Snellville isn't a big city. In fact, this town is kind of on the super adorably small side and is only about nine miles in size. It has definitely gotten a lot bigger since its days as only a general store and a post office with some of Snell's buddies residing nearby. But if you move here, be prepared for a low-key and old-fashioned sort of town. If you're eager to hop on the team Snellville bandwagon, you can even pick up stickers with the town motto on them at city hall for the low price of one dollar. The best part about Snellville is its proximity to Atlanta. Hop in your car, drive into town, and you can enjoy world-class entertainment, like a Braves baseball game or a musical at the Alliance Theatre.
